Rachel Corrie was not a child.

She was a young adult with every privilege in the world, but no direction, and a serious case of over-mothering. She was rich, spoiled, and raised in special snowflakeism...and self-hatred. She drifted, maundered, and couldn't even muster the gumption to finish a bachelor's degree at a non-grading college.

She grew up in my community. I knew her. She was fragile, confused, unmotivated, and had her mind seriously twisted by a few professors at her college.

She finally got a working class Jew to achieve her suicide for her. As a result her well-off WASP parents have a new post-retirement career: reconstructing her as a saint...and a perpetual little girl, a female Peter Pan.

We who refuse to accept the canonization of this seriously deficient young adult like this:

In July 2010, I looked a little at Achcar's book. Immediately I saw that his claim that Arab anti-semitism was a reaction to alleged Zionist expulsion of Palestinian Arab farmers, or as Rubin describes him at UCD saying that it only started after 1920, is laughable.

The first Arab attack on Jews in Palestine was in 1886 in Petah Tikva, a community built on swampland that did not displace any Arab.

A quote from an 1874 travelogue says ""Men in Palestine call their fellows 'Jew,' as the very lowest of all possible words of abuse."

From the Saturday Magazine, 1840:

The most distressed position in which the Algerine Jews have been placed, was when the country was under the military despotism of the Janissaries. Often when the Janissaries met them in the streets, they would beat and otherwise ill-treat them, without their daring to offer the least resistance; and their only resource was, to run away if they could. If any one among them dared to complain, the Cadi would ask the offending Turk why he had struck the Jew. "Because he spoke ill of our holy religion," would be the reply. This sealed the poor Jew's doom; he was immediately put to death, and his property confiscated to the State. When a Jew went to a fountain, he was obliged to wait until every Mahometan had left it, before he presumed to take a drop of water. This dreadful state of persecution was somewhat mitigated under subsequent governments; but still Jews have always been treated at Algiers with the contempt which they so generally meet with in Mahometan nations.

Another book from 1857, talking about Jews in Sanaa:

These poor people are awfully oppressed. The Jew is the object of continued insult and oppression. If he passes through the streets, the very beggars may knock him down, and he dare not venture to resent the insult. He is even not allowed to call a Mohammedan by his true name, but in addressing him must give him the title, "My Lord."

While Arab anti-semitism was and still is far different from Christian anti-semitism, it was real and obvious to many observers who came through Arab areas in the 19th century. It is also worth noting, however, that Palestinian Christians imbibed in traditional Christian anti-semitism and in no small part influenced their Muslim neighbors in the decades that followed.

But Achcar is far worse than just being selective in his history. As I proved in my earlier post, he actually frequents anti-semitic websites and used at least one quote in this book that was directly lifted from neo-Nazi literature - the proof being that he misspelled the name of the source in the same way that countless neo-Nazi sites do.

And his interest in insulting anyone who asks hard questions did not start at UC Davis; he acted in a similar way at a talk he gave with another fraud of a historian, Shlomo Sand, at SOAS.

Why would UC Davis Jewish Studies Department give any respect for a quasi-historian who gives no respect to his adversaries or even to the truth itself?

Other reasons for the difference in casualty rates:
1. Israel protects its citizens better than the PA or hamas does
2. Martyrdom is not promoted by Israel
3. 13 yr-old - 17 yr-old Palestinian boys engage in dangerous militant activities regularly from rock-throwing, to molotov cocktails, to guns, and are used as human shields by their elders
4. Palestinian children are frequently around munitions, bomb factories, and rocket-firing sites which are dangerous
5. there are armed fights between warring Palestinian groups struggling for power--children get killed in the crossfire
6. Israel has state of the art medical facilities. Though many Israelis are injured, many lives are saved by heroic medical treatment.
7. Palestinian mortality figures are padded

93 were 15 and older. We miscounted by 4, so...if you want to correct me feel free.

Mind you these are deaths from the single month of January in 2009.

What's great about the site I mentioned above (http://rememberthesechildren.org/remember2009.html) is:
not only does it tell you their
name,
age, and
where they died,
but it also tells you
how they died.
So your percentage of 90 percent of the "children" killed are teenaged boys is a little off. It's more like 65% (+/-3%) of the children killed were >=14.

If you consider that 13 and 14 is an appropriate age for a child to be able to fight/die in a war (mind you, Palestinians are not allowed to carry arms) then I think you should send your 13/14 year olds to war and see how that pans out.

Under the Geneva convention children are not allowed to be used as soldiers. Also under the Geneva convention is the restriction that civilians are not to be targeted.

If you consider children throwing rocks at soldiers to be an act of war,
then in Greece, whenever someone throws a rock at a stray dog to keep them off of their property, does that mean Greeks are declaring war on stray dogs?

If you want to dispute how many of the child deaths above were caused by suicide bombs, please, feel free to post some statistics, I'd love to continue this discussion.

I'm glad you cited Remember these children- look at it- really look at it. You'll find that over 90% of the Palestinian "children" killed in this conflict are teenaged boys. The cynical use of children as soldiers in this conflict is a direct violation of the Geneva convention- and shows the willingness of the Palestinians to sacrifice and martyr their own children. Look at eth names of the Israel i children dead- equal numbers of girls and boys in all ages- that indicates to me that children were deliberately targetted for terror.
